To provide students
with practical experience and in-depth knowledge of the industrial sector, the
Business Club of the Department of Business Administration at the World
University of Bangladesh organized an Industrial Tour on March 1, 2025. Such
tours offer students real-world exposure beyond textbooks and help prepare them
for their future careers. This time, the destination was Deshbandhu Group in
Narsingdi, one of the country's leading food and beverage manufacturers.
The journey began at
10:00 AM, when a group of 70 students from the Department of Business
Administration departed from the university premises for Deshbandhu Food and
Beverage Limited. Dr. Sharif Hosen, the moderator of the Business Club,
accompanied the students. During the journey, they shared their previous
industrial tour experiences and discussed the operational processes of various
industries.
After traveling for
approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes, the students arrived at their destination
at 12:50 PM. They were warmly welcomed by the officials of Deshbandhu Food and
Beverage Limited, who greeted both the students and the moderator cordially and
provided a brief overview of the tour activities. To facilitate a better
understanding of the production processes, the students were divided into two
groups, each led by a guide. One group was guided by Quality Control Manager
Mr. Md. Kamruzzaman, who first provided essential safety instructions for
navigating and observing the factory operations.
The first stop of the
tour was the bottle manufacturing unit, where plastic resin is melted at a
specific temperature to create bottles of different shapes. This process is
entirely automated and completed without human contact. Next, the students
visited the cap production unit, which produces approximately 76,000 caps per
hour with remarkable speed and accuracy.
The tour then moved
to the Liquid Mixing Section, where various types of beverages are prepared
under strict quality control, ensuring precise measurements of raw materials.
The students observed the entire process, from ingredient mixing to final
packaging, all executed with great precision. The bottling and packaging
process, like other stages of production, is fully automated, demonstrating the
factory’s advanced technological setup. Although the schedule initially
included a visit to the Polymer Factory, time constraints and external
circumstances prevented this part of the tour.
Following the factory
visit, the students were given a refreshment break and had the opportunity to
taste various products manufactured by Deshbandhu Food and Beverage Limited.
Many found the carbonated beverages particularly enjoyable. Afterward, a
discussion session was held, where the students received an introduction to
Deshbandhu Group and its operations. Established in 2017, Deshbandhu Food and
Beverage Limited currently produces eight different flavors of beverages,
including three juice variants, one drinking water product, and carbonated
beverages.
A workshop on
"Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)" was also conducted, led by
Quality Control Manager Mr. Md. Kamruzzaman, who covered various aspects of
GMP. The key topics discussed included the definition and importance of GMP,
quality control and proper production processes, methods for maintaining product
quality, the necessity of documentation and record-keeping, and challenges in
maintaining GMP standards.
During the Q&A session, students had the opportunity to ask questions to the officials of Deshbandhu Food and Beverage Limited. When asked about the countries where Deshbandhu Group exports its products, the officials mentioned that their products are shipped to India, Malaysia, Africa, Europe, and America. In response to a question about whether the India-Bangladesh relationship impacts their exports, they clarified that although political issues exist, they do not affect trade operations. Additionally, when inquired about new product developments, the officials revealed that they are planning to introduce a new beverage flavor, "Lassi," soon.
After the Q&A
session, the students had a lunch break and enjoyed a meal arranged by the
factory. A short rest followed, after which they were initially scheduled to
visit the Polymer Factory, but due to time limitations and external conditions,
the visit was not possible.
Finally, the students
gathered for a group photo and departed for Dhaka at 5:30 PM. The Industrial
Tour proved to be an enriching and valuable learning experience, offering
students detailed insights into real-world production processes, quality control
systems, and advanced technology applications. The hospitality and management
of Deshbandhu Food and Beverage Limited were commendable.
Organizing more such
industrial tours in the future will provide students with hands-on knowledge
and further enhance their academic and professional skills.
